Project: Concrete Scanning for Champlain Bridge

Situation

The new Champlain Bridge is a multi-year $4bn project to join the island of Montreal and South Shore. With the vast majority of this bridge being constructed as pre-fabricated blocks off-site it was highly necessary to assess the integrity of individual concrete blocks.

To ensure safety in the construction process the client required the location of Post-Tension cables and rebar within each concrete block.

Solution

Xradar were engaged as the sole GPR service provider to assess the integrity of the individual concrete blocks which included the precision of Post-Tensioned Cable holes and rebar positioning for structural integrity purposes.

Due to the thickness of the individual concrete blocks, this engagement required the use of both Xradar Enhanced Concrete Scanning and Concrete Ultrasound techniques.
